The original veggie burger, usually you see it in the form of balls. This version is a patty and served in a pita. If you liked the chickpea wrap, you will like this one, too.


2 cloves garlic (peeled and pressed)

4 leaves lettuce

1 regular lemon (juiced)

¼ regular yellow onion (chopped)

¼ cup parsley (chopped)

1 large tomato (sliced)

Whole wheat pitas

1 15 oz can chickpeas (drained and rinsed)

2 Tbsp whole wheat flour


½ tsp baking soda

½ tsp coriander

2 tsp cumin

½ tsp dulse

¼ tsp red pepper

1/8 cup tahini

2 Tbsp coconut oil


  1. Gather all your ingredients and preheat oven to 350 (for pitas).
  2. Measure out all your spices (cumin, dulse, coriander, red pepper), baking soda, drain & rinse beans, chop onion & parsley.
  3. Place beans in food processor and finely chop.
  4. Add all the spices, baking soda, onion, garlic, and parsley to food processor – mix well.
  5. Place mixture into large mixing bowl and stir in flour.
  6. With your hands form mixture into 4 patties.
  7. Cut your pitas in half, wrap in foil and place in oven to warm (about 10 min)
  8. Heat oil over medium high heat and cook patties until golden brown on both sides (about 4-5 min each side).
  9. While the patties are cooking, mix lemon and tahini. Slice tomato. Cut lettuce.
  10. Serve patties drizzled with the lemon/tahini and Tabasco to taste. Top with tomato and lettuce.
